Efforts to overcome the consequences of post-war bombs and mines

(Quang Binh Portal) - On the afternoon of September 16, 2022, Comrade Ho An Phong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People"s Committee chaired a courtesy meeting with Ms. Donna Welton, acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Programs and Operations in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, the US Department of State and a delegation from the US Embassy in Hanoi. Attending the meeting were representatives from the office of the Provincial People"s Committee, the Provincial Military Command, and the Department of Foreign Affairs.

At the meeting, on behalf of the provincial leaders, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee expressed his pleasure to welcome Ms. Donna Welton and the delegation of the US Embassy in Hanoi to visit and work in Quang Binh on implementing programs and projects to overcome the consequences of post-war bombs and mines sponsored by the United States. He overviewed the status of pollution of bombs, mines, and explosives left over from the war in Quang Binh province and informed the delegation about the situation and results of cooperation and support of the United States to Quang Binh in the fields such as tourism, culture, education, humanitarianism and especially in the work of overcoming the consequences of post-war mines and explosives.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also highly appreciated the achievements of the programs and projects sponsored by the US government in the province over the past time; simultaneously, we would like to express our gratitude to Ms. Donna Welton, the delegation of the US Embassy in Hanoi and the US government for many meaningful and practical activities to support Quang Binh province, thereby, contributing to promoting the socio-economic development of the province. In the coming time, Quang Binh province wishes to continue to receive the cooperation and support of the US government in overcoming the consequences of mines and explosives left over from the war; pay attention to investing in communication, education, and prevention of landmine accidents for the people, especially children; provide material and spiritual supports for landmine victims to overcome difficulties and integrate into the community.

After listening to the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Ms. Donna Welton thanked the provincial leaders for the warm welcome to the delegation and highly appreciated the achieved results as well as the effective coordination of provincial authorities in the process of implementing programs and projects funded by the United States in the province. With the proposal of the province, Ms. Donna Welton agreed and said that she would always uphold her responsibility in implementing programs and projects to help Quang Binh clean up bombs and mines after the war.
