At the ceremony, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Korea in Vietnam handed over mine action equipment to the Vietnam National Mine Action Center including more than 200 bombs/mines detectors, which will be used for the framework of the Korea-Viet Nam Mine Action Project to overcome the consequences of post-war bombs and mines. Those devices with modern specifications will help survey and clearance forces to exactly detect where mines and unexploded ordnance still exist in the ground to collect and process according to technical processes. At the same time, it will help VNMAC to form a database of contaminated and clearance areas; which is one of the important data on land management for local socio-economic development.

The Korea-Vietnam Mine Action Project was launched in March 2018 to enhance the capacity of management of mine action across the country as well as to ensure safety and support development in areas contaminated with post-war mines and unexploded ordnance. Specifically, through the Project, KOICA and UNDP support the Government of Vietnam implement the National Mine Action Program for the period of 2010-2015 (also known as Program 504) to ensure good results.

According the National Survey, Quang Binh has about 224,934 ha contaminated with mines and unexploded ordnance (accounting for 30% of the whole province area).

The project supported the identification of contaminated areas and remove of landmines and explosive ordnance to ensure people’s safety when they access to basic social infrastructure, such as health clinic, school and productive land. VNMAC, KOIKA and UNDP will make joint effort in order to boost socio-economic development in the targeted provinces. On the other hand, the Project also contributes to strengthen the national capacity for management and implementation of mine action projects, ensuring timely and quality support for landmine victims, reducing the number of landmine accidents by raising local people's awareness of the accident risk from mines and unexploded ordnance.

In the morning of the same day, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Korea to Vietnam and the delegation visited and checked the implementation of the Korea-Vietnam Mine Action Project in Tan Trach and Thuong Trach communes (Bo Trach district).
