QUANG BINH POTENTIALS IN BLOOM

Geographic location

Centrally located, belonging to the North Central region, Quang Binh possesses significant economic, cultural, and social values of the whole country. It has such famous beauty spots and cultural-historical relics as Ngang mountain pass, Ly Hoa mountain pass, Nhat Le estuary, and especially, the World’s natural heritage Phong Nha - Ke Bang, as well as many beautiful beaches.

Connecting the Northern and Southern regions of Vietnam, Quang Binh is closely linked to key economic areas of the country by West and East branches of the legendary Hochiminh trail, North - South railway, sea route and waterway. Furthermore, neighboring with the country of Laos and overlooking the East Sea, Quang Binh is gateway for international transaction with national highway l2A to Thailand and Laos, Cha Lo international border-gate, Hon La port, Dong Hoi airport.

Investment policy

Quang Binh Provicial People’s Committee is committed to letting investors enjoy a maximum degree of preferential treatment as defined under the current law of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

We give special priorities to investment projects in the fields of building materials manufacture, power industry, tourism, production and manufacture for exportation, aquaculture, mining, handicraft and sea transportation, etc., which can utilize local labor.

Labor force

With an abundant workforce, most of which is well-trained, Quang Binh is able to provide a reliable source of unskilled and skilled labor to big projects. There is one university, three technical secondary schools, two vocational high schools and some technical training centres which annually train about ll,000 to l2,000 workers and engineers for different industries.

Infrastructure

Quang Binh is currently appreciated for its policy of developing infrastructure to serve industry and agriculture, following a united and interactive model. Systems of electricity, transportation, water supply and drainage, telecommunication, etc. are implemented in an integrated manner, assuring long term socio-economic development.

Quang Binh has various kinds of minerals including billions of tons of cement limestone, 30 million cubic meters of quartz, 36 million tons of kaolin, cement clay, tile clay... whose exploitation capacity can be improved to meet domestic demand, and also for export. Particularly, high quality cement limestone of big reserve and convenient location makes it easy for large scale exploitation for production of high quality cement and other outputs.

Energy exploitation and development

In addition to national power network, Quang Binh is in preparation of building thermoelectric factories with the capacity of 2,400 to 3,000 megawatts in Hon La economic zone. The province also has potential for developing renewable energy sources from wind and geothermal power. The coastline of Quang Binh expected to set up a wind turbines system with the total capacity from 600 to l,000 megawatt.

Land and sea resources

Quang Binh has a natural area of over 8,065K2. In addition to 7l,530 hectares (8.87%) and 50.300 hectares (6.23%) being used for agricultural and non-agricultural purpose, there are still over 58,700 hectares (7.28%) of unused land which has capability to plant timbers and industrial crops. The forestry land is 623,400 hectares at largest proportion of 77.29%. While aquaculture land is just 2.645 hectares (0.33%).

The province has a sea territory area of over 200,000km2. Quang Binh has 525,000 hectares of natural forest with many primitive forests, 63,800 hectares of plantation with a wood reserve of 32.3 million m3 and a coverage level of over 67%.

At present, the province has many important products for exporting such as rubber latex, tapioca, pepper, chilly, etc. The annual output of aquatic products is about 30,000 tons.
