Quang Binh province is located at 17⁰05’18⁰05’ north, 105⁰37’107⁰10’ east, which is 491km South of Hanoi Capital and 157km North of Hue old citadel.

The province covers an area of 8,037 square kilometers with a total population of 807,787 (year 2000 statistics), and it is divided into Dong Hoi City and six districts namely Minh Hoa, Tuyen Hoa, Quang Trach, Bo Trach, Quang Ninh and Le Thuy. Quang Binh has border with Ha Tinh on the North, Quang Tri on the South, People’s Democratic Republic of Laos on the West and the East Sea on the East with the borderlines’ length of 129km, 83km, 201km and 116km respectively.

With the strategic location at the center of the country, Quang Binh has great potential for development of socio-economy in general and tourism in particular. Its development advantages include the North-South railway, National Road No.1, Ho Chi Minh Road running through the province’s length, Road No.12 linking Quang Binh and Laos; the sports of Gianh, Hon La and Nhat Le; and the newly-upgraded Dong Hoi Airport.

geography, climate, habitat formation and social transformation process have all together brought about a diverse collection of natural and human values for the province. Right in Dong Hoi City, visitors can make choice from a great variety of sightseeings such as Dong Hoi Citadel, Quang Binh Gate, Dao Duy Tu Wall and so on. From there, visitors are offered trips to the World Natural Heritage Phong Nha - Ke Bang Grottoes and legendary historical Ho Chi Minh Road and farther north to Vung Chua - Dao Yen landscape where the Hoanh Son Range extends to the sea. The Western area of the province treasures some tourist attractions of Cha Lo - Na Phau International Trade Center, local historical relics and traditional festivals of Minh Hoa and Tuyen Hoa mountainous minorities. A visit to the South of Dong Hoi is also a good experience. Visitors will be attracted by the historical General Vo Nguyen Giap exhibition house, Nguyen Huu Canh Tomb and Bang Hot Spa Resort. And finally, Quang Ninh is proud of its coastal area with almost unspoiled beautiful beaches of Nhat Le, Quang Phu, Bao Ninh, Hai Ninh, Ly Hoa - Da Nhay and Quang Dong.

During the past few years, Quang Binh has had some State’s investment to improve and build its tourism infrastructure. The provincial transportation, power and water supply system, airport and seaports are now operational. The existing tourism’s accommodation has been improved and new ones constructed to ensure their international standard’s services. Tourism attractions are thoughtfully exploited to offer visitors fascinating and distinct products. Cultural, historical and traditional sites and villages have also been conserved.
