General Vo Nguyen Giap visited places of memories
In 1940, after meeting Nguyen Ai Quoc in Yunnan (China), Giap was entrusted with the task of building a revolutionary base within ethnic minorities and establishing the Vietnamese Mobilization and Liberation Army, comprised of 34 people in the Tran Hung Dao forest in Cao Bang Province. This army, the predecessor of the Viet Nam People’s Army, defeated several troops with its climax of the victory of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign and the Spring Offensive 1975 that liberated South Viet Nam and unified the country.
