The Bien Gioi (Border) Campaign 1950

The Campaign Command was directed by General and Political Commissar Vo Nguyen Giap. On September 16 1950, the strike to Dong Khe Entrenched Camps opened the Border Campaign. After 29 days of fighting, the Border Campaign was victorious.

The Vietnamese People’s Army annihilated and captured 8,000 enemy soldiers, liberating a border area of 750 kilometers long with 350,000 inhabitants. The Viet Bac resistance base was consolidated and enlarged, becoming connected with other socialist countries. This victory was a turning-point that took the Resistance to a new level: Viet Nam took an actively strategic position on the battlefield.
